Our History
In 1926, Arthur Kent founded Kent Engineering and a few years later Kent Steering & Brake. His son, Richard Kent held the position of Managing Director for both these companies for many years. Both companies focused on the engineering and repair of car components and the general maintenance of automobiles and in post war years employed over 160 people. In 1955, Richard Kent took his experience in automotive engineering and mechanical smash repair and established his own business - R.Kent & Sons (Vic) Pty. Ltd.
Initially, the business employed 2 staff and existed as focused automotive engineers. Richard Kent then saw the opportunity to apply his automotive engineering skills to the mechanical smash repair industry, and over the past 50 years the business has grown to employ 30 staff and operate 3 premises. The company now specialises in all facets of mechanical smash repair including suspension, steering, engine, rear axle and 4WD chassis repairs, as well as supplying changeover reconditioned components to the smash repair industry.
In short, we have been doing this work for over 40 years and have evolved and grown with the industry. Knowledge has been passed down over the years and our experience as automotive engineers is vast, with our key staff collectively having over 100 years experience doing this type of repair work.
Kent & Sons (Vic) Pty. Ltd. has remained a wholly owned family enterprise since it was established by Richard Kent in 1955. The company is now in control of Richard's sons, Thomas and James who have been running the business for the past 30 years.
